Telindus and The Royal Hospitals sweep the awards boards
Innovative wireless and VoIP installation reigns victorious on the 2006 awards circuit
Odiham, UK - 28 September, 2006 - Telindus, an expert in delivering vendor-independent business and technology-focused network solutions and services, and its integrated Wi-Fi deployment at The Royal Hospitals, Belfast, have continued their award domination during 2006.
At Tuesday's 2006 CNET Networks UK Technology Awards, The Royal was named 'Public Sector Technology Project of the Year', its fifth accolade this year. Not content with this, Telindus and The Royal have also been short-listed for the Channel Network 'Innovative Technology' award, BCS IT Professional Awards 'Mobile Computing' award and the Computing 'Public Sector Project of the Year' award.
The Belfast installation exemplifies the way wireless communications can deliver tangible business benefits by integrating VoIP voice tags with a department-wide wireless network. Recognising the benefits realised by clinical staff and the increase in overall patient care, the project has this year already secured: the Techworld 'Public Sector Project of the Year' award; the Communications in Business (CIB) 2006 'Best Wireless Project' and 'Outstanding Achievement' awards. It has also fought off stiff international competition to be named 'Best Enterprise Deployment (Public Sector)' at the Wireless Broadband Innovation Awards (WBIA) 2006.
"Wireless has promised much but often let us down through unreliability, poor manageability and incompatibility. The Royal Hospitals bit the bullet and brought wireless into the health sector in a massive way, and proved that it need not be like that. Users love it and trust it to work, while for once the cost savings and increased efficiencies are beyond doubt," commented the judging panel at the 2006 CNET Networks UK Technology Awards.
"2006 has been a fantastic year for Telindus, and The Royal is proof that wireless communications are making a real difference to business processes," said Mark Hutchinson, UK managing director at Telindus. "Being short-listed for the Channel Network Awards, which recognises the best practices in client solutions and encourages channel partnerships, as well as the Computing Awards - one of the most sought after awards accreditations in the industry - further proves how The Royal and Telindus are at the cutting-edge of technology."
The Royal, like many other UK hospitals, wished to improve efficiency to deliver high quality patient care in an increasingly tough financial climate. As well as requiring a reliable and secure wireless solution for its material management system, The Royal wanted to move away from the traditional paper-based systems and enable to staff to work anywhere, at anytime.
"These awards recognise the hard work involved in rolling out these applications throughout the hospital and the strong partnership that we have with Telindus and their chosen partners,' said Paul Duffy, IT manager at The Royal. "Having access to information at the bedside enhances the way that our clinical staff can deliver patient care and dramatically reduces the administration time - allowing us to discharge patients and free beds more efficiently."
Telindus provided The Royal with the solution and it is the first healthcare trust to deploy such a large scale wireless network, incorporating the latest Wi-Fi tags, wireless LAN (WLAN) and voice over IP-protocol (VoIP) solutions. Being short-listed and winning so many awards highlights how the project has successfully increased the efficiency of the Hospital's 6,800 staff and dramatically reduced administrative time, demonstrating a tangible return on investment (ROI).
