Telindus and the Royal Hospitals win at Techworld awards 2006

Innovative wireless and VoIP installation named Public Sector Project of the Year

Odiham, UK - 29 June, 2006 - Telindus, an expert in delivering vendor-independent business and technology-focused network solutions and services, has today announced that its integrated Wi-Fi deployment at The Royal Hospitals, Belfast, has won the Techworld Award for its 2006 'Public Sector Project of the Year'.

The Techworld Awards, now in its 12th year, recognises and rewards industry vendors and service providers who have delivered excellent products and solutions over the course of each year.  The independent panel of judges is made up of professionals from leading associations, top consultancies, private and public sector organisations and key technology editors from Techworld.com.

The Royal, like many other UK hospitals, wished to improve efficiency to deliver high quality patient care in an increasingly tough financial climate.  As well as requiring a reliable and secure wireless solution for its material management system, The Royal wanted to move away from the traditional paper-based systems and enable to staff to work anywhere, at anytime.

Telindus provided The Royal with the solution and it is the first healthcare trust to deploy such a large scale wireless network, incorporating the latest Wi-Fi tags, wireless LAN (WLAN) and voice over IP-protocol (VoIP) solutions.  Winning the award highlights how the project has successfully increased the efficiency of the Hospital's 6,800 staff and dramatically reduced administrative time, demonstrating a tangible return on investment (ROI).

"We are delighted to have won this award with The Royal, as it further proves that the convergence of voice and data across the wireless network delivers true business advantages," commented Mark Hutchinson, managing director at Telindus UK.  "The Royal is an excellent example of how a customer with the vision to embrace innovation and the way staff access data across locations can have a dramatic effect on improving overall patient care."

"The award recognises the hard work involved in rolling out these applications throughout the hospital and the strong partnership that we have with Telindus and their chosen partners,' said Paul Duffy, IT manager at The Royal.  "Wireless applications have enabled us to implement new technologies - such as wireless voice and tracking - and provide strong patient-focused services.  Having access to information at the bedside enhances the way that our clinical staff can deliver patient care and dramatically reduces the administration time - allowing us to discharge patients and free beds more efficiently."

"This year's Project of the Year - Public Sector category was hotly contested with a number of excellent entries, but The Royal and Telindus stood out from the crowd due to the project's innovation," added Maxwell Cooter, editor at Techworld.  "The project exemplified the way wireless communication, particularly VoIP, can be used to deliver tangible business benefits."
