Telindus projects receive accolades at CIB Awards 2006
Innovative wireless installations at The Royal Hospitals and Manchester Airport receive honours as Best Wireless Projects of the year
Odiham, UK - 11 September, 2006 - Telindus, an expert in delivering vendor-independent business and technology-focused network solutions and services, today announced that it was victorious at last night's Communications in Business (CIB) 2006 Awards. Its deployment at The Royal Hospitals, Belfast, won both the 'Outstanding Achievement' and 'Best Wireless Project' awards, while its project at Manchester Airport was highly recommended in the 'Best Wireless Project' category.
In association with Communications News, the CIB Awards recognise excellence among networking professionals in the UK. In contrast to other awards, the CIB Awards recognise the business-enabling projects of technical professionals in a wide range of businesses and public sector organisations. The independent panel of judges is made up of professionals from leading associations, top consultancies, private and public sector organisations and the editor of Communications News.
"These awards prove that mobile communications and VoIP are becoming strategic business differentiators and organisations are starting to understand the value they can bring," commented Mark Hutchinson, managing director at Telindus UK. "By embracing VoIP, The Royal has not only demonstrated its vision but is furthering its commitment to patient care, and Manchester Airport's wireless deployment illustrates how mobile technology can provide an additional revenue stream."

The Royal, like many other UK hospitals, wished to improve efficiency to deliver high quality patient care in an increasingly tough financial climate. As well as requiring a reliable and secure wireless solution for its material management system, The Royal wanted to move away from the traditional paper-based systems and enable to staff to work anywhere, at anytime.
Telindus provided The Royal with the solution and it is the first healthcare trust to deploy such a large scale wireless network, incorporating the latest Wi-Fi tags, wireless LAN (WLAN) and voice over IP-protocol (VoIP) solutions. Winning the award highlights how the project has successfully increased the efficiency of The Royals' 6,800 staff and dramatically reduced administrative time, demonstrating a tangible return on investment (ROI).
"Telindus' expertise and its relationships with innovative technology partners such as Vocera and Trapeze Networks has enabled us to transform our working practices,' said Paul Duffy, IT manager at The Royal. "Having access to information at the bedside enhances the way that our clinical staff can deliver patient care and dramatically reduces the administration time. We are delighted to have won this award as it proves that we made the right decision in partnering with Telindus."
Richard Thurston, the editor of Communications News and chairman of the judging panel for the Communications in Business Awards said: "The wireless project at the Royal Hospitals was outstanding in several respects: it utilised the wireless LAN for a range of innovative applications, which were integrated tightly and with proven results. The judges were delighted to recognise this outstanding project with both the top award for Outstanding Achievement and the Best Wireless Project award."
Implemented by Telindus, Manchester Airport Group (MAG) has installed and launched a wireless network for the benefit of airlines, shops and the public at large. The airport has the facility to provide multiple secure wireless LANs to MAG internal staff and service partners. In addition, a public service, run in partnership with T-Mobile, is available to travellers within the majority of public locations throughout the terminals. The wireless network is based on Trapeze's Mobility System™, providing a dual-purpose wireless network with private, secure access for airport staff and a public network for travellers and businesses within the airport complex.
Due to the success of the airport's network, a similar network has been rolled out at other regional airports within MAG, allowing the Group to increase its commercial offering and cater for the growing connectivity needs of its customers and passengers.
"The travel industry is highly competitive and it is essential for airports to demonstrate innovation in order to attract retailers and ensure traveller satisfaction," commented Aaron Bazler, network and infrastructure manager at MAG. "The Telindus wireless solution has revolutionised the way we operate and has increased our commercial proposition. In particular, we are able to cater for the needs of the modern traveller, provide flexible working for the airport staff and aid service partners/airlines in deploying wireless data applications."
